Good morning, friends. How’s your week going thus far? After a few days in the clear, my immune system finally succumbed to the cold/virus/whatever Rick had last week, and I’ve been feeling totally under the weather! Of course, it’s one of my busier weeks, so powering through and becoming besties with EmergenC.Â
What’s new in my life? To be perfectly honest, the last few weeks have been really uneventful (this is a good thing!). I feel like I’ve finally gotten into a routine in our new house and in our marriage. I’m loving cooking dinners for the hubby, getting into a genuine workout routine and finally having my own office to sit down and get work done or have me time.
I feel like the month of May is usually a month of transition. With spring starting to wrap-up and summer right around the corner, I’m usually always dreading the warmer weather. It’s actually been pretty nice the last few weeks in Houston, and yesterday may have been the first day I complained to myself that it’s getting hot.
We celebrated my cousin Sarah’s 14th birthday earlier this weekend (I feel old…) and we are heading out of town soon to help celebrate our nephew’s high school graduation. Which reminds me, it’s been four whole years since my-own college graduation. Time sure flies when you’re having fun, am I right??
We don’t have any concrete plans for summer just yet, and for once, I’m totally okay with that. Usually we or I are traveling to Arizona, California, etc. for summer, but the next few months are free of plans thus far. We are heading on our annual trip to Santa Barbara in August, and I’m pretty excited for that. We’ve rented a beach house this summer and I can’t wait to smell that salty-air and sleep with our windows open to the cool ocean breeze.
Usually I love to travel during the summer, but perhaps because of the many life changes I’ve had – getting married, buying a house, etc. – having no plans sounds just peachy. We usually like to head to our little slice of Texas paradise, Galveston, for a weekend with our dog Lucy; I’m sure we’ll do that at least once this summer. Rick and I also have enjoyed doing some Texas road trips and spending weekends at my family’s Ranch, so I’m sure we’ll take a few of those sorts of trips in the coming months. I really want to head to Fredericksburg and go to a winery or two!
In the meantime, I hope you’re still getting around the updated site nicely and I’m excited for some upcoming content in the next few weeks. I’ve got a nice mixture of style, beauty, lifestyle (like wine & eats) + travel headed your way. Stay tuned!
Now for things I’m loving:Â
– Last night I had dinner with the Elizabeth Arden team and they shared with us some of their latest in skincare and beauty. We got a preview of their new skincare and beauty products, and I have to say I’m most excited to try quite a few things! The Prevage City Smart SPF is so lightweight, and will be perfect for Houston’s humid summers. I got a chance to try out the Advanced Ceramide Capsules, and y’all they are brilliant. Think serum/oil for your skin that is fast absorbing and clinically proven to take 10-years off the look of your skin. So good! In the makeup department, I absolutely am loving the lightweight, melt-proof formula of the Sheer Kiss Lip Oils and the FourEver Bronze powder compact will certainly become a go-to!
– I’m a big reader. I’ve loved to read ever since I learned at the ripe ole’ age of 3. In the summer, I’ve been known to devour books – my high school record was 20 in one summer. So needless to say, I’ve been on the hunt for some new books to download and came across Goop’s 16 Great Reads for the Summer article. I’m thinking about downloading The Assistants first!
– Y’all, J.Crew just dropped their new summer arrivals earlier this week, and they’re so good! Here’s what I’m particularly adoring: this smocked gingham & off the shoulder dress (my two favorite trends combined into one, need I say more?), the most adorable pineapple painted ruffle top, an embroidered linen cotton tunic top that I need in both colors and the cutest pair of New Balance for J.Crew palm print performance leggings (need!).
– If you read a previous Coffee Talk installment, then you know that I was planning on getting my hair cut and possibly colored by my friends at the Houston-based salon, Vanity in the Heights. Thanks to this Aveda salon, I had the most wonderful experience receiving my first-ever Balayage color and cut about 4 inches off my hair. You can see the final result in this Instagram post. I’m absolutely in love with my cut and color and if you’re in Houston, highly recommend Melyssa – she is brilliant! Check out my Pinterest beauty board, for some of the snapshots I pinned for my new hair inspiration.

The Elizabeth Arden SPF sounds great. I’ve been dying to find an SPF for daily wear that doesn’t feel too heavy on my face. I also love love love reading so the Goop list sounds fantastic!

I’m going to have to skip out on a big vacation this summer since I switched jobs but we’re looking forward to some day or weekend trips here and there. Honestly, I’m looking forward to a relatively quiet summer to catch up on some reading and save up for a bigger trip!

It’s still snowing over here so I can’t wait for warmer weather!

Sometimes I go through to homebody phases too – it’s nice to sit at home and not have plans from time to time! I’ve also been waiting to check out J. Crew’s new summer stuff, and I can’t wait to go soon! And I also go to an Aveda salon – they are always so wonderful!

I love reading books I just wish I could find more time to read. I’m hoping over the summer on some beach days I can read a few new books. My one favorite authors is David Baldacci, I love the style he writes I am always interested in the book. The linen top & gingham dress are adorable, the dress looks like it’s perfect for hot / humid summer days.

Being busy is great, but I’m with you… I’m ready for a less busy summer. With getting married and my husband still in school and the army reserves life has been CRAZY. He was in Kentucky for a month and then the weekend after he got back was mothers day so we went to my in-laws then to my parents this last weekend. I’m ready to have a relaxing weekend for just the two of us to lounge around and do nothing… except brunch.

I love that you attached all of your finds at the bottom of this post! I’m all about your J Crew finds ????

The new haircut sounds awesome! I am so jealous of your hot Houston weather… it’s in the 50s and raining to kick of MDW here in Vermont :/
