Happy Independence Day, y’all! How was your holiday?! We had a little of an eventful one over here, but it also ended up being relaxing in the end and much needed. Did you get to enjoy? So sorry, if you’re back in the office today, at least it’s a short week!
To elaborate on the above, our family dog, she was my grandparents’ and now my uncle’s dog, Daisy the Goldendoodle, exhibited some seriously worrisome signs of heat stroke on the fourth. My cousins were outside swimming and she had been with them, and I was inside working. I heard her scratch on the door and whine, and found her outside acting super erratic and out of character.
My aunt and I ended up putting her in the sink and running cooler water over her, but she could barely stand up and keep her balance. I Googled signs of heatstroke in a dog and she was exhibiting all the signs. My uncle and I ended up taking her to the emergency ER and the doctor gave her an IV.
Fortunately for Daisy, we were cognizant and saw the signs and tried to take care of the symptoms before they got out of control. However truly, I have never really thought of heatstroke in a dog! It was a serious eye-opener and made me realize that no one is immune to the crazy Texas heat, including pups!
If you’re a fur-momma, some of the signs of heatstroke to consider are: labored breathing, difficulty standing, fast heartbeat, etc. It was definitely scary! But keep calm, because dogs can definitely sense when their humans are panicking, and in turn will become anxious and nervous.
Never uneventful in these parts! We did enjoy our trip to East Texas and heading out to the lake with our close friend. The weather was so great, hot enough to swim in the lake but not disgusting with the humidity! I have to say getting back to the Houston-area has made me want to melt. The humidity has been disgusting! Gulf-coast summers are rough, y’all.
Rick, #LucytheTerrierMix and I spent the beginning portion of the weekend at the lake and then drove down South to my family’s Ranch just West of Houston and we spent the latter portion of the holiday weekend with my family. My uncle and cousins set off some really awesome fireworks, we swam, grilled and fished. Besides the debacle with the dog, it was a really fun and relaxing weekend.
Hoping you and yours had a wonderful holiday, and luckily we have a short week ahead!
Now for things I’m loving:
– I’m always on the hunt for new photography tips as a blogger, and I really loved these Top Photography Tips for Style Publishers from my friends at Chloe Digital. Whether you’re a blogger or just enjoy taking photos, these tips are definitely useful!
– I didn’t really shop any of the July Fourth sales, we were busy out on the lake or traveling in the car to our different destinations, but if I did get to briefly take advantage of the LOFT sale. I grabbed this marled sweater, it’ll be perfect for trips later this summer to California. This off the shoulder tee and these dressed up denim shorts.
– We’re heading to Northern California for a trip to the Wine Country later this month and I’ve got some different items in my shopping cart. It’ll be a bit cooler in San Francisco and I’d like to have some pretty pieces to wear at the vineyards, so here are a few items I’m thinking about for my trip: an i-kat printed mini-dress; this pair of reflective cat-eye sunglasses; and this darling off the shoulder eyelet top, comes in three colors!
– Headed on a weekend-trip soon? These duffle bags are perfect for a weekend getaway: a classic monogrammed duffle bag, a chic vegan leather duffle – under $100! And lastly, this unisex navy Bric’s duffle, perfect for alternating use between your hubby or boyfriend!

Heatstroke with dogs is something very serious & it is amazing that you were able to see the signs!! Even now, I am sitting outside with my dog and it is 80 degrees. But, I let him run through the sprinkler. So, he is sopping wet. Also, I have him under the umbrella! It is important to keep them nice & cool. It is unfortunate that they can’t tell us when they are hot! xx
