Working from home has taught me some useful tricks on how to start my mornings off on the right foot. In preparation for a productive day, I like to take a little time for myself.
Some mornings I may need to wake up earlier to fit in my morning routine, especially if I have a meeting or shoot on my calendar. Regardless of if it’s a busy or calmer day ahead of me, I’ve learned that my inner creature of habit appreciates sticking to these 3 morning habits to kickstart the day.
1. Set your intentions straight for the day & journal about it
As I’ve gotten older and the mornings have gotten busier, one of my usual morning habits is to take a little time for myself. In that ‘me time’, I like to think about my intentions for the day. Sometimes I’ll read a daily devotional (find my favorites linked on the shop page, scroll to the bottom).
Other mornings I might take a few minutes to journal down thoughts or goals. Putting my thoughts to paper, helps to clear my mind of anything that might be on it at the moment. 3. Give yourself a break from technology (at least for a few minutes!)
I’ll admit, usually the first thing I do is look at my phone when I wake up in the morning. However, I’ve been trying hard to break myself of this habit. I try to avoid technology for at least 30-45 minutes when kickstarting my day.
Of course there are going to be times that it’s absolutely necessary to check my email or open Instagram for a campaign, but I try my hardest to limit it. In today’s technology ridden world, I find my anxiety and happiness levels hinge off my phone. How sad is that statement? When I read that stressful email or check in on my mobile to do list, first thing in the morning, my anxiety definitely spikes.
I’ve found that breaking myself of the habit of immediately looking at my phone, has helped my outlook on each day – as I begin my morning as stress free as possible, and let the pressing emails or to-dos come later.
