Since picking up my needlepoint hobby, I didn’t have a reason to purchase baby needlepoint canvases! Fast-forward to late last year, with the announcement of baby girl’s summer 2022 arrival and all the sudden a whole new genre of needlepoint canvases were added to my wishlist.
Personally, I’ve been simultaneously stitching a baby sleeping door sign, along with a baby’s first Christmas ornament. I had hoped to finish both before Olivia’s arrival this summer, but I developed pregnancy-related carpal-tunnel and was sidelined from stitching anything at the end of my second trimester until she was born.
And let’s just say, stitching with a newborn sounds a lot easier than it actually is… at least for me! It was so tough those first few months fitting in any sort of stitching. I’ve finally found my stitching groove again in the last month or so, and forgot how much I had missed the hobby.
Whether you’re personally expecting, have daughter or niece who’s expecting or a friend that’s having a child, these baby needlepoint canvases are sure to stitch up just darling, and finish into cute little keepsakes for years to come.

1. Baby Sleeping sign by anne fisher
The first canvas I purchased after finding out we were having a baby! Although I haven’t finished it yet, I’ve enjoyed stitching this canvas because is 13-mesh. I opted to stitch the background with a decorative stitch which is taking me longer, with compensating. I plan to stitch the bunny in very velvet, and as you can see I did a color swap from the traditional pink/blue colors.
2. first christmas mittens by pepperberry designs
I just finished this canvas and really enjoyed stitching it! These mittens are precious for a new baby or even a newly married couple. I’ve seen a lot of people put initials or stitch a year on the other mitten, but I opted to keep mine blank. I’m hoping to have them finished as two mittens attached by a cord. I stitched the mittens with a Wicker stitch background stitch and the cuffs with a Kalem vertical stitch.
3. boot scoot baby cowboy boot by wipstitch needleworks
My friends at Dallas-based Wipstitch sent me the darling Boot Scoot baby cowboy boot to stitch for Olivia. A cute option for either a boy or girl and not a traditional baby needlepoint canvas – this could work for anyone, any age!
4.
An affordable hand-painted canvas option. Comes in pink or blue and could easily be self-finished as a framed piece, inserted into a box or more!
5.
A newer design for baby needlepoint canvases – I wish I had the patience to do these! They’re such a cute idea and make a beautiful family keepsake and heirloom. This 12 month milestone collection comes in the traditional pink or blue. If you’re looking for gender neutral, there’s a full-color version, or simply swap the colors for taupes or greens.
6. Sterling silver baby rattle by Silverstitch needlepoint
A traditional design for a traditional gift. I think this baby needlepoint canvas is so charming and classic. Comes in both pink and blue or swap the color stripe for green or yellow to make it gender neutral!
7. Gingham teddy bear mini sock canvas by susan roberts
This canvas is darling for a new baby or an older grandchild. Comes in a variety of colors and finishes out as a cute little sock. Would make a great piece for grandma to stitch her grandchild. Put it on the tree with a little clue as to what and where the present will be on Christmas Day. I have this canvas on my wishlist.
8. baby carriages by stitch style
One of the newest designs the Stitch Style designer, Jinny, introduced at market. A precious little pram canvas to commemorate a newborn baby. Finish it framed, as an ornament or even a door hanger. I also love the idea of finishing it as a patch that can be sewn onto a baby diaper canvas tote bag!
