Back with another installment of canvases to add to your stash, and this time I’m sharing my favorite collegiate needlepoint canvases!
My husband Rick and I both went to Texas-based universities, but I went to the huge public one and he went to a smaller private one. They both have pretty great athletic programs, too. And also have a nice rivalry. Yet, somehow, I end up going to a ton more Baylor events then I do University of Texas ones…
Suffice it to say, we’re big fans of our respective Alma Maters, so it’s been fun to stitch some collegiate needlepoint canvases that correspond to our colleges.
One things I love about collegiate needlepoint canvases is they’re usually smaller designs – meaning quicker projects – and they also make great gifts! Finish them up into luggage tags, ornaments, framed pieces or acrylic coasters/trays. Collegiate needlepoint canvases have been some of my favorites to stitch, and I usually always have one in my stash or WIP pile.

1. Kathy schenkel college rounds, Mini socks with mascots and pennants
Truly so many different Universities and Colleges represented in this line of needlepoint canvas designs. I’ve stitched two of the mini socks – the UT and the Baylor. I loved stitching them, as they were great little pieces to try out some different decorative stitches for the sky backgrounds and architecture. Plus, the little mascot critters are included with the canvas, and I just love how Bevo is popping out of the top of the stocking. I opted to have him sewn in. These canvases are affordable, too. Especially if you order them from an LNS trunk show.
2. Meredith collection college squares
Simple and beginner-friendly needlepoint canvases, the College Squares by Meredith Collection make for the perfect luggage tag insert, coaster or snap tray insert for a self-finish.
3. Two Sisters mini shift dresses
I placed a custom order for the Two Sisters Texas Longhorns mini shift dress locally at Needle House in Houston, and had such a fun time stitching it! These little shift dresses are so cute finished with a hanger for an ornament or honestly could be finished squared off into a luggage tag.
4. Painted pony for debbie Woodard college angels
A small but adorable stitch. These little collegiate angels are quick projects, with the opportunity to include a handful of decorative stitches. I stitched the Texas Tech angel as a gift, and it turned out adorable! Plus, it included a cute little charm to tack on once complete.
5. Wipstitch Needleworks Collegiate jeeps
These little jeeps are fun and unique stitches, that can lean both masculine or feminine. I’ve stitched a Christmas jeep by Wipstitch and now have both the UT and Baylor college jeeps in my stash. There’s also a fabulous stitch guide available, it’s perfect for capturing the jeep perfectly with a variety of decorative stitches. I plan to have these finished into acrylic catch-all trays like the ones linked.
6. Carol dupree school candy cane & snowman
The ever-popular candy cane and snowman canvases by Carol Dupree are a cute way to commemorate yours or their alma-mater. Another simple and easy stitch that can be kitted by diving into your thread stash. Stitch for your child’s future Christmas tree and have it embroidered on the back with their graduation year. These canvases are affordable too, at just $45!
