Let’s be frank, I wouldn’t call myself a ‘do-it-yourself-er’, but I enjoy being creative so I figure why not try it out? When Ace Hardware reached out to try a do-it-yourself painting project, it was perfect timing with my moving and redecorating a new apartment.
I love the concept of a gallery wall – I had one in my former bedroom and plan on trying to replicate it. Another thought I love are empty photo frames painted in accent colors for a bold statement. Enter Ace and their $.99 color sample pint sale at any of your local Ace Hardware retailers!
When I was a little girl I loved wandering around the paint chip aisle at our local hardware store. Maybe it was just me, but I thought the rainbow of colors was so fun to see lit up in presentation and would usually take a chip or two back home with me (shh, don’t tell!).
So it was no different when I headed to my local Ace paint studio where I was quickly greeted by a sweet Scottish gentleman who was eager to help me with my do-it-yourself painting project. When I decided what paint I wanted to try out, he loved my bold color choices and explained how he loved seeing someone make a not so classic color choice when choosing paint.
My choice was easy as I knew I wanted to pick accent colors for my living room based around blue and lime green tones. I have two lime green upholstered chairs that accent my tan linen upholstered couch. I wanted to go for a statement gallery look on one of my accent walls without filling the frames with illustrations, or paintings for budget-friendly decorating.
As a novice paint buyer, the process was super easy – the Ace Paint Studio made me feel like I’d not only been a regular, but they also took time to find out what I was working on. While the paint samples were being prepared, I picked up some of the necessary tools to get going on my do it yourself painting project and headed on my way.
The vibrance of the three Clark+Kensington paint samples I picked is simply awesome. Exactly what I was looking for in this small do-it-yourself painting project. I primed my frames with a sprayable primer and began painting like I was back in grade school art class again.
Let me tell you, it wasn’t as easy as it looked – Mother Nature made the breeze a little difficult to cooperate with and I made the rookie mistake of leaving my frames to dry on the drop cloth! But all in all, the do-it-yourself painting project with Ace was both affordable – I only spent $50 on all my paint, tools and frames – and relatively painless in the whole process start to finish.
I can’t wait to get these frames hung in my new place and enjoy how vibrant they’ll look accented on my living room wall.
