I think it’s safe to say we can all use a cocktail right now. My go-to cocktail is a fresh margarita on the rocks. There’s something so refreshing about tart lime, it’s one of my favorite flavors! I love indulging in a margarita, but hate the excess calories that comes with so many of the recipes. That’s why I came up with this easy and tasty skinny margarita recipe – enjoy without the guilt!
That crisp, first sip of a margarita is one of my favorite things! My mom and I both call it our favorite cocktail. And even though I love a margarita paired with chips and salsa, I love it just as much with a piece of fish or a salad, too!
Before I came up with this recipe, I used to just buy pre-mixed Margarita mixes at the grocery store. It seemed to be a simple alternative to making my own. But, if you check out the back label, more often than not, these pre-mixed margs are loaded with unnecessary calories and sugar. And don’t get me wrong, I love sugar as much as the next person, but if there are cut-arounds I can make to reduce the count, I’m all for it! Plus, this easy and tasty skinny margarita is fresher, with ingredients easily picked up from the grocery store.
Cut out the extra calories and sugar by using unsweetened coconut water as a mix base. It’s so tasty and just use a little more lime juice if you don’t want any hint of coconut flavor in your margarita. I personally like it!
I usually just keep these ingredients on hand in my fridge, whether I plan to make a skinny margarita or not. Plus, it’s simple and quick to make. All about keeping things simple. Cheers!
Easy and Tasty Skinny Margarita
Ingredients
2/3 cup unsweetened coconut water
1/3 cup fresh lime juice
1 jigger of Silver or Blanco Tequila (I personally love Dulce Vida Tequila)
2 Tbsp orange juice
Slices of lime + orange and salt for garnish
Method
Step OneÂ
In a cocktail shaker, add coconut water, lime juice and tequila. Shake for 15-20 seconds
Step TwoÂ
Take top off cocktail shaker and add OJ, stir into mixture
Step Three
Take a cut lime or orange wedge and rub it along 2-3 inches of the glass rim. Dip that portion of the rim in a plate of salt. I prefer pink Himalayan.
Step Four
Add ice to your cocktail glass and pour in your margarita. Garnish with lime and orange slices. Cheers!
