Our first day in Dubai was a little rough on me – fighting the jet lag as well as one of the hottest days we experienced, had my body a little unhappy. Nevertheless a roughly 44 degrees celsius outside temperature (plus the humidity factor, making the heat around 115 degrees fahrenheit for us American folks had me dressing solely for comfort and coolness.
Enter floppy hats & flowy dresses. To me, the epitome of what to wear when it is brutally hot, cover your face and get some breeze up your skirt for some serious relief from the potent Dubai sun!
Of course, we chose to spend our afternoon at an adorable new establishment called the Boxpark; a quaint shopping area stretching for a few blocks with a mixture of shopping, dining and the like. Built from ‘containers’ each shop and dining offering is connected with one another and has a much more modern and rustic feel than say the big indoor malls Dubai is known for.
It may’ve been a sign when we were some of the only people walking along the shops, but it was so fun to see a part of Dubai that was different from much of the rest. I definitely felt the European influences on this shopping area and would highly recommend stopping by if you ever visit.
We snacked on mini macarons at Gossip Desserts and had an afternoon pick-me-up at The Brownie Box (try the salted pretzel brownie, YUM!). If you aren’t aware, our visit was during non-peak season (the heat!), but imagine Boxpark during high-season with seating all along the sidewalks and in front of the restaurants, it’s a rather hip place to see and be seen!
Needless to say, floppy hats and flowy dresses was the best choice I could’ve made for this day one excursion. I was hot, but definitely not as hot as I could’ve been in a maxi dress or close fitting clothing. My floppy hat became a go-to for jaunts as well as by the pool because the Dubai sun is rather potent. For help with sun protection I used my Clarins face sunscreen every single day before applying my makeup.
Stay tuned for more on my trip, I’ve got some great posts up my sleeve and cannot wait to share more! xx
