I have been all about the off the shoulder tops and comfy, drapey shorts for summer. I admit I’m not the best at pattern mixing, I have some friends whom it comes second nature to. However I want to share with you how to pattern mix, because the easiest trick might not be the one you think of first!
It is so hot here in Texas, y’all. The moment I get in my car or walk outside I essentially start sweating, and my hair doesn’t do well in this heat either. But when I know I have go to outfits, like this number, looking put together in the heat becomes possible.
Quite frankly I’ve entered the pattern mixing game a lot later than most, but better late than never right? The trick I have to share with you as to how to pattern mix, with ease, is stick to a color palette. In this outfit’s case I stuck to navy and white. The combination of navy floral with blue pinstripe shorts is key.
If you want to take the first step to pattern mixing, stick to a similar shade. You should have no problem from there! Unless you’re attempting to mix something super outlandish like camo print and polka dots – a little too similar of a pattern if you ask me!
See previous pattern mixed outfits from the blog here and here. Both were from New York Fashion Week (FW16 & SS16 seasons), where I’ve tended to take a few more risks with my outfits, but also two of my favorite pattern mixing attempts!
