Summer travels are right around the corner! What are you carrying inside your travel tote? I’m giving you a peek inside my carry-on that I’ve taken along with me on our weekend trip to Mexico.

If you haven’t already noticed, I travel a lot (see here). So I have to say, I’m rather versed in the type of luggage and carry-ons I like to bring along when I’m flying the friendly skies.
A sturdy tote is a must. I cannot deal with anything flimsy, with weak handles that feel like they’re going to give out. And honestly I prefer a zipper closure, but a lot of tote bags don’t offer this feature so I am a little less picky when it comes down to it.
During the warmer months, why not carry something with a punch of color? I love this colorblock tote because it stands out and is different from so many of the usual totes seen carried across airports.
For me there are tried and true items I always have in my travel tote. A magazine, personal favorites are Porter and US Weekly/People. Headphones, of course! I cannot tell you how many times I’ve had these babies be my savior when a crying baby or chatty cathy sat near me.
I always bring along a snack, for me granola or Kind bars are my choice. To stay hydrated I bring along a great lip balm, which lately this Aerin lip conditioner I picked up at Bergdorfs in NYC, has been a go-to. Plus I always keep a little gloss or lipstick in any of my bags just in case I need a little color or pick-me-up.
Sunglasses, of course. A great wallet that can carry all my necessities. For this trip, since we were traveling out of the country, I wanted something that would keep all my essentials in one place: passport, phone, credit cards and cash. I have to admit I don’t really carry wristlets on their own anymore, but this one is the perfect travel wallet.
Finally, my skin gets extremely dry when I fly. I like to rehydrate with a mask or under eye masks. These Rodial individualized Dragon Blood masks are my new favorites. Not only are these on the more affordable spectrum, but they really work!
Sometimes I’ll put them on during the flight if I know I’m going to sleep (a saving grace on the 15 hour flight to Dubai, underneath my eye mask) or I’ll put them on that evening once I’m settled into my hotel.
Especially after a night of drinking or over indulging in eats, relaxation needs to be a number one priority on vacation. For me, things like under eye masks, creams, balms and overall taking care of my skin as I travel from climate to climate, is a key part to that routine.
Not shown is the large water bottle I pick up at the shop once I make my way through security. I usually also grab a candy bar, just in case I ever get into a pinch. One time I sat on the runway for what felt like hours in a delay and hadn’t eaten much that day. A granola bar of course curves the hunger but something like a snickers which has peanuts for some protein and good fatty-oils.
What do you swear by in a travel tote? Tell me in the comments, I’d love to hear if I’m missing anything!
