Another week, another coffee talk! Grab a seat and let’s chat.
First off, I want to thank each of you so very much for the amazing words of encouragement, prayers and more after last week’s post. As I had mentioned, it was definitely completely out of my comfort zone to share something so personal.
I read each one of your comments, emails and texts; each one meant so much. Thank you for being honest and telling me what’s going on in your life; thank you for letting me know that you appreciate the realness of last week’s post. Above all else, thank you for letting me be me. It means so much and I’ve definitely taken it to serious heart.
What else has been going on in my little corner of the world? Well, we’re finally mostly settled in our house. I know I keep saying this, but each week I feel like I find another box to be unpacked or pull out items in drawers or a closet that need reorganizing. Homeownership is no joke!
I’m a huge sucker for animals, especially dogs, I probably would be that crazy dog lady if Rick didn’t reel me in a tad. But last week we were driving home from dinner and the most gorgeous golden retriever ran across the road in front of us. This isn’t a little road, think a major intersection (Woodway & Voss for my Houston friends), three lanes on each side.
Of course I immediately freaked out, and Rick was a serious champ and immediately threw on the brakes and hazard lights so we could make sure the dog wouldn’t get hurt! We immediately knew he was a family dog when Rick opened the door and called for him and he ran our way without hesitation. Naturally, he had a collar but no tags. So we got him in the trunk of our SUV and headed to the emergency vet clinic to see if he had a chip. And naturally there was no chip, either.
We’re dog lovers, we have the most amazing fur-baby of our own, Lucy (search #Lucytheterriermix on Instagram and you’ll see photos of our sweet pup), and we knew the right thing to do was to bring this Golden Retriever home with us for the night. After leaving word with a few area vet clinics, I turned to social media to post photos and a description of the guy.
Y’all, I know the power of social media, I use it every day, but I got to see it in serious action last week. Within minutes of posting about the found dog, people were sharing, commenting, tagging others, etc. We had a few rescue groups offer to help us, others let us know they’d be willing to foster if we couldn’t etc.
Let’s just say we both anticipated it to be a long night, with our pup Lucy who sleeps in our bed and the Golden Retriever in an unfamiliar environment, but it was completely the opposite. Both pups were so good! Fast-forward to the morning and someone had connected the owners of Bear to us and we were able to reunite him with his family.
Thank goodness for social media, or I don’t know if we would have had much success trying to find the owners! There are reasons that we give our beloved fur babies tags on their collars and these days, chips embedded in their back.
If I can leave you with one thing, it’s this: please tag and/or chip your pets. I feel like I sound like Bob Barker on the Price is Right, “don’t forget to have your pets spayed or neutered,” but this little corner of mine here on the Internet can hopefully be a catalyst for spreading the word. Alright, I’ll step off my soapbox… for now :]
Now for things I’m loving:
– As I mentioned, we’re really starting to see our home take shape. Over the weekend, I got our little front porch styled to my liking (see the Instagram photo here) and I just love it. We received the monogrammed doormat as a wedding gift and picked up these lanterns at Target. Hopefully I have some sort of green thumb, as I planted the new little Boxwood we picked up at the nursery Sunday afternoon and just love what it did to tie the whole front porch together.
– I’ve been enjoying cooking dinner most nights, and found the most delicious one-pot recipe via a blog called the Laughing Spatula. Y’all I am all about easy dishes that still are super tasty, and this recipe is just that. I cooked this easy Creamy one skillet Chicken with Mushrooms and Orzo in my Le Creuset dutch oven last night and it was absolutely delicious! I highly recommend you check out the recipes and try one for yourself.
– Did you happen to catch my budget-friendly shopping post late last Friday/over the weekend? My girl on a budget series was super popular, but I kind of fell out of the groove, however I’m trying to get back on track! There are some super adorable spring styles, all under $100. Let me know if there are any other shopping round-ups you’d like to see! I recently snagged this pair of red canvas sneakers, just $65, and this adorable striped off the shoulder top. Also, on my own wishlist is this cheeky graphic tank from Madewell!
– During my clean outs… I found some beauty products I had received but had yet to open, and one of them was this IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream moisturizer. Y’all this stuff is good! Under $50, I have noticed a huge difference in the texture of the skin on my face. It’s a semi-thick formula, which I love. It doesn’t leave my face feeling greasy and when I wake up in the morning my face feels ultra moisturized. If you’re looking for a travel size, find it here.
– Lastly, there’s a big sale happening now through Thursday! Bauble Bar‘s spring fling sale has select pieces discounted up to 50% off the original price. I have always loved these fun tassel earrings, marked down to just $26! This adjustable cuff bracelet would go with so much every single season and I just love the playfulness of these hot pink pom pom earrings.

Oh my gosh such a sweet story. I am so glad you were able to help that golden retriever get back with his family. I’m a big dog lover too. I can only hope that if my dog is ever lost that someone as kind and thoughtful as you will help him back to me (he is chipped though too)!
