As the days grow shorter and the weather cools down, I love cozying up with a glass of red wine and some tasty holiday snacks. I don’t know about you, but once we’re home for the night in the winter months, it’s rather hard to get us out of the house again. That’s why we love date nights in!
I’ll admit, it’s rare to see my husband here on the blog, but when it comes to date night, we always try to make spending time together a priority.
I’ve got 4 stay at home winter date night ideas even when the weather is bad or you’ve had a long day!
4 stay at home winter date night ideas
1. Cozy up with wine & a movie
The most natural at home date night idea, but honestly, how often do you actually do this? For Rick and I, we really don’t cozy up with wine and a movie as often as we’d like. But during the holidays, we try to take at least one night for ourselves, sans our phones, to enjoy a tasty bottle of wine and a movie (or tv series).
Whether you’re a seasoned wine lover or pick out a bottle of wine based on the label, you can’t go wrong with AVA Grace Vineyards. You might remember a post from a few months ago where I shared my top tips for entertaining at home. We love AVA Grace wine in our house, and lately we’ve been enjoying the California Red Blend. With notes of blackberries and raspberries, this red is a blend of smooth and richness with just a hint of spice. Perfect for warming up on a cold evening!

2. Cook dinner together and sit at the dining room table
This is one of my favorite date night in ideas, it’s easy and a great way to reconnect with one another. Best part about sitting at the dining room table – we’re away from any distractions including the TV or our cell phones! For us, we love grilling steaks for date nights at home; it’s a total team effort. Rick grills the steaks and I cook up the sides and pick out the wine. Lately, I’ve been reaching for AVA Grace’s Red Blend. It’s the perfect pairing with our steaks.
I feel like sitting at the dining room table for dinner is a dying tradition. I personally know people who don’t even own a dining room table anymore. So even though we’re all busy, taking a night to cook together and enjoy some conversation can be wonderful for the soul.
3. Sit down and plan a future trip
In case you hadn’t already realized it, traveling is a huge part of my life. Lucky for me, Rick loves to travel too! Although we might not execute the trip immediately, we love talking about potential trips we might take in the future and what we would do on them. Snuggle up on the couch together and look up bucket-list-worthy travel locales on the computer or tablet and plan out a mock itinerary. You never know, you might just go through with booking that future getaway!
4. Put together a memory book
While this certainly reads much more as a girls night to-do, reminiscing on previous trips, memories or your wedding is a fun and easy at home date night idea. These days our pictures are stockpiled away on our phones, but why not print out your favorites and put them together in an album? While you might not look at the memory book for days, weeks or years to come, you’ll always remember the date night in when you put it together, along with all the memories each photo holds inside.
Do you have any at home date night ideas you’d like to share? I’d love to hear about them in the comments below!

I like the idea of cooking together and actually eating the meal together at the dining table (like a date). It’s so easy to eat in front of the tv – this makes it special!

Movie nights in are our go to too! Popcorn is my favorite snack, but usually I opt for a buttery Chardonnay or champagne. I love red wine though and will have to give that AVA grace red blend a try!

I love all of these ideas! So fun and sometimes it nice to stay home vs. going out. Saves money.

I wish we had a fireplace – that would make winter date night perfect. But wine and popcorn would be a great substitute. The only trouble with staying home is that the tv always gets turned on

We seem to always be on the go, so when we’re home we’re usually busy catching up on our own chores, emails, work, etc. Our favorite date-night activity is either a big ribs smokeout (or steak and grilled corn if there’s not a lot of time) or a movie night. We have so many things we want to watch, so little time to watch them! (And for the latter, I always try to get a foot rub from the sweetie; my #1 favorite way to relax and unwind!)
